Back in that post-disco/pre-AIDS sweet spot in the early '80s, two crazes simultaneously swept America's cities: electronic music and recreational cocaine use. Directed by Brian De Palma, written by Oliver Stone, and starring Al Pacino, the 1983 film Scarface was the perfect movie for these times—a hyper-violent, rags-to-riches, love-it-or-hate-it landmark that continues to be sampled by wannabe kingpin rappers decades after the fact. With Giorgio Moroder's melodramatic synth-centric theme music and the Jazzercise-friendly dance songs courtesy of Elizabeth Daily (best known as Dottie from Pee Wee's Big Adventure) and Maria Conchita Alonso, the import-only soundtrack was also quite popular, despite not being officially released in the U.S. This 2013 version looks exactly the same, but it features brand-new remixes of the tracks by producer Moroder. Some songs come off basically the same, while others sound completely different than the original mixes. Check out Debbie Harry's 'Rush Rush' and the montage-music classic 'Scarface (Push It to the Limit)' by Paul Engemann. Oct 9, 2010 - The Original Soundtrack/Score/Musical Stories - Albums thread. Scarface has got a quality soundtrack if that hasn't been mentioned yet. Scarface is a film I love, but equally find impossible to take seriously. It's a slice of 80s kitsch, combining various flavours of the flashiest excesses of the decade into a whole far more entertaining than the sum of its parts. This is why I don't really find the soundtrack particularly interesting.
